Being an artist in the age of AI
More than ever, competition weighs heavy on artists. What was already a difficult line of work to breach into now pits its contenders against generative AI. But beyond conversations surrounding environmental impacts and the threat of large-scale automation, what does it pose against individual artistic integrity?

Should artists forgo menial chores in favor of potentially optimizing their output?

I personally say no.

Art at its core is human, something immeasurable by production. To rely on algorithmic generation not only reduces our worth as artists to what is profitable, but also waters down people's lived affairs to statistics. If art requires hours toiling over your craft or making a fool of yourself sharing "shoddy" work, I believe that is a labor we should endure. As it is through such endurance that we experience ourselves and the human condition further.
